Fashion and Men – The Not Much Talked About Connection

Fashion, till date, has always been associated with women. But with the passage of time, it is coming into the foray that men had never been too far behind when it came to looks and fashion, albeit all were done with a sort of subtletty and care.

With the passage of time, men are becoming too conscious of their fashion and the style statement they make. Many people are terming this fashion conscious bunch of men as "metro sexual". Metro-sexual is a neologism that sprang up from two words: metropolitan and heterosexuals. It generally reflects to urban men who are meticulous in grooming themselves by following all the guidelines of fashion in vogue.

Of late, urban street fashion is much in vogue for ladies and gents alike. Smart, casual yet quite cheap, they go on to serve the purposes of the youth quite quickly while saving the pockets as well. The mantra of this kind of fashion is ditching the regular pants and shirts that men used to wear and owning the "cool" t-shirts and jeans, ditching the regular brown or black leather shoes or canvas shoes. The term "proper" and "perfect" must be deleted from the system and replaced with "cool" when it comes to describing a metro-sexual man. The style is more of an urban street-smart fashion; cropped loose denims, almost dirty tees with a scarf and a casual hat over an unkempt hairdo define him to perfection.

Although street-smart fashion literally means having a carefree attitude towards fashion and grooming, sometimes this kind of fashion needs the most care to put together. At least most people take quite a long time in conjuring up this look: which jeans will look better: an acid-wash jeans or a bottom cropped jeans or a rugged jeans? It is that do-or-die decision over which men do not mind spending hours at a stretch. However, that was for a more careful urban-casual street-smart guy-looks like an oxymoron, does not it? For a more carefree individual, sweatshirts, polo t-shirts, canvas shoes and baggy jeans seem just perfect.

Weaving street-smart casuals is not much of an option nowdays than a necessity. No matter how much one tries, wearing collared shirts, pants and leather shoes to bowls or casual workplaces seem to be quite drudgery. This is not because it's out of fashion, but more because it is simply impossible nowdays, in the days of global warming and junk food, to be looking like a perfect gentleman every single time we go out. It also allows people to relax and just be their own selves even while they are out for education, partying or work. It makes them feel at ease to a certain extent in other places, and sometimes even helps them deliver a better result each time. All said and done, the new mantra in vogue is to be 'just yourself'.
