Plants can be good for shade and comfort. Be sure to avoid hard plastics though.
Finally, purchase the proper food. Betta fish are not used to eating often. In fact, it would be wise to feed them less often. Feeding them too often can actually kill them. A good rule of thumb to stick to would be once every other day.
